Why Modibodi’s Reusable Nappy is different. Your questions answered...

Modibodi’s patent-pending reusable nappies have been designed for high-performance and usability to encourage parents to ‘rethink reusables’ and switch from disposables to a more sustainable choice...for good.

“We designed our reusable nappies on the brand trust we’ve built from our leak-proof, absorbent underwear to encourage more people to switch from disposables to reusables to eliminate the millions of tonnes of waste caused by disposable nappies.

We asked customers what they didn’t like about current cloth nappies and designed a reusable nappy that addressed their concerns - simple to use, super absorbent, feels dry, reduces odour, resists stains, high quality and looks great - because we want to make it easier for people to make a permanent change to reduce the carbon, water and waste caused by single-use disposable nappies.

Science and innovation are at the forefront of everything we do, so we’ve undertaken rigorous internal research and testing on our reusable nappies, just like we do with our leak-proof, absorbent underwear, which have been scientifically verified by a leading independent global laboratory and Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified as safe from harmful chemicals.”

- Kristy Chong, Founder & CEO, Modibodi

To create our innovative patent-pending all-in-one design, we undertook research with both disposable and reusable nappy users to identify the challenges and objections stopping parents from switching from disposables to reusable nappies – for good.

We took those insights, together with our 8 years of proven expertise in leak-proof, absorbent apparel, and did what we do best: combined science, safety and innovation to develop an original product to solve a pressing environmental problem – the huge waste created by disposable nappies.

Between birth and the age of three, the average child will use around 6500 nappies, generating one tonne of plastic waste which takes hundreds of years to break down in landfill

Our exclusive patent-pending technology is proof we didn’t just seek to replicate current cloth nappy designs, we applied scientific testing and innovation to create something new to help move reusable nappies into the mainstream...and make them the first choice for parents of babies through to toddlers.

What sets Modibodi’s reusable nappy apart from the competition is its patent-pending technology, which is the unique construction and combination of inner and outer fabrics working together to deliver the following benefits other reusable nappies don’t have: superior absorbency, leak-proof outer, fast-drying lining which resists stains, odour and solids.

Plus, the all-in-one design is easy to fit – just like a disposable nappy – and is made to fit babies from 5kg through to toddlers up to 18kg, with press studs and adjustable waist tabs for a flexible fit as your baby grows.

Modibodi’s reusable nappies have been independently tested and verified by leading global laboratory Qualspec to hold 1026ml of fluid (with one reusable booster in place), which makes them ideal for overnight protection and a better sleep for baby...and for you. For heavy wetters or older babies and toddlers, you might want to add one booster for day time and two for overnight.

They’ve also been compression tested to not leak even at 500ml (the average baby-toddler loses 100-150ml of urine at a time), which makes them suitable for wearing when seated in car seats and highchairs.

Of course, we still advise regular nappy changes throughout the day, just as you would with disposable or other reusable nappies.

Our choice of materials needed to balance performance, durability and safety, while reducing carbon emissions, water use and the waste caused by disposable nappies. We tested a wide range of natural fabrics including cotton, bamboo and hemp, but found their performance didn’t meet our high standards for both absorbency and safety.

Microfibre terry middle layers

The microfibre terry in our middle absorbent layers (which don’t sit next to baby’s skin) has been knitted and manufactured exclusively to meet our product goals, delivering a level of performance and absorbency which is unique to Modibodi products.

All of the fabrics and components in our reusable nappies are Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified for baby’s safety – the only level we were comfortable with for our new design, and a standard many of the natural fabrics we tested couldn’t meet.

Durability was another measure of sustainability, and our nappies are made to last, so you can pass them from child to child, and then onto family and friends.

Clever black Polybrush lining

The black Polybrush lining which sits next to baby’s skin in our reusable nappy is one of our brand’s iconic design choices, made in line with the entire Modibodi range of underwear and apparel which has been in market for the past eight years.

We understand it might seem unusual, but we’ve always done things differently, and its performance is exceptional.

Firstly, our lining has been scientifically designed to repel solids. That’s because, compared to fabrics such as bamboo and towelling, the smooth structure of the antimicrobial Polybrush fibres repels solids so they don’t stick, making it easy to see them and to scrape them and/or rinse them off more easily.

(Note: if you’d prefer to see what’s going on inside ‘on a white background’, our Biodegradable Bamboo Liners are a great choice to slide in against baby’s skin).

While our nappy absorbs urine through the Polybrush lining into the middle layers, solids aren’t absorbed into the fabric to cause staining or pigmentation. The scientifically proven, safe antimicrobial treatment on the nappy’s lining inhibits bacteria growth to help keep things hygienic, and by following our washing instructions, you’ll ensure your reusable nappies are fresh and clean, ready for their next use.

We’re so confident in the design, performance and sustainability of our new reusable nappies that we offer a 60-day risk-free trial so you can try them for yourself – and your baby. If for any reason it’s not for you, you’ll receive a full refund on the purchase price...and we don’t know of any other disposable or reusable nappy brand making the same offer.

We’re on a mission to have limitless positive impact, and our entrance into the reusable nappy market will extend our brand and its platform to drive more people to switch from disposable nappies to reusable alternatives.
